We often live as though we have to get a whole lot

We often live as though we have to get a whole lot of things done before we are allowed to take a breath and feel what is happening inside. We act as though experiencing what it feels like to be alive is too much trouble or work or will take too much time. Yet it takes just one moment, just one breath, to come home and matter.

The challenge with feeling is that our experience is filled with pain and discomfort as well as joy and delight. There is no positivity bias that lets you feel just the good bits. It takes courage to be truly alive and feeling it all. But you are so worth it.

This is a simple statement, but simple to understand isn’t necessarily easy to do. We tend to narrate our lives rather than actually live them. For example, can you feel your breath as you inhale, instead of just “knowing” that you are inhaling?
