Return of the Light (December 19, 2009)

The longest night is almost upon us.  We are called to enter into that darkness and witness the magic of the return of light.  We are asked to have faith in the cycles and circles of our lives, even when things are not illuminated for us.  Even when things are uncertain.  Even when we do not know how they will turn out.  Even when we do not have ultimate control over the things we long for.

We breathe ourselves into the velvet night and feel the fire of our spirit even when we cannot see.  We have our feelings of vulnerability and we hold ourselves with compassion.  We watch the complexity of who we are.  Our doubt is as loved as our faith.  We watch and we wait for nature to bring us what we need.  We do our part by being awake and aware, in our willingness to be with whatever arises within us in the not yet knowing and not yet having.

Comforting candlelight, flickering firelight, shimmering starlight, twinkling LED light... all remind us of the constancy of our authentic light.  We bring the light of our own loving consciousness to the tenderness of our human lives.  Our consciousness mirrors us back to ourselves and illuminates our deepest longing and highest hopes.  It lights paths of connection to others.  And to the world.  Even when there is darkness around us.  Especially then.

My wish for you at this sacred time is that you remember Who you are in the richness of all of yourself.  Deny nothing.  Not the pain nor the joy nor the frisson of dissonance as you enter the vulnerable truth of being human.

Come home to your body and feel the exquisite love that awaits you there.  Know the loyalty of this sentient home.  It loves your consciousness.  It longs for your light.  Give yourself to yourself.  And out of that beauteous receiving of you, give yourself to the rest of us, in all that you most deeply and authentically are.

With love, Sandra

P.S.  I will be taking a break from this blog for the next two weeks, as I rest and remember myself also.   Blessed Be.

Thank you Sandra. Your words are so beautiful and as someone who finds this time of year difficult, the image of the light is so comforting. I will focus on celebrating all parts of me this holiday....the messy parts, the funny parts, the curious parts, the intellectual parts, the loving parts and all the other parts that make me the complex individual that I am. I will celebrate that with the knowledge that I am worthy of love....by me and by others.

Have a restful holiday.
